The top of the Plague Stone showing clearly the hole where the water was either put or rain water collected. This water filled hole was where money was passed between the villagers who were in quarantine and the outside traders. The money for the goods being put in the water awaiting the trader to leave his goods and collect his payment from within the water. It was thought that by leaving the coins in the water the plague would not spread.
